A VR Dance Film
A VR Dance Film
The first impulse to make ASHES came from a desire to create a story that can only existing in VR and would use the entire 360 environment. This is a story that is made to be seen in VR (Samsung GearVR or Google Cardboard) headset.
While diving into the story it became clear that I wanted to tell the story with movement that lives between the lines of acting and dancing. Having grown up as a classical ballet dancer, the language of movement and dance has always remained how I feel most comfortable expressing myself. In my later life I grew very fond of choreographers like Pina Bausch who is a modern dancer that tells emotional stories with her choreography. Based on these experiences,, I knew I could create a simple story with a deep emotional impact. By utilizing the full 360 space, it allows for the dancing couple’s journey of love, loss and mourning to unravel at once around the viewer.
